Demand on our whale watching tours has been very high and this morning was very busy! In our tour 9:45 both our boats, Faldur and Aþena went out fully booked with people! On the tour the minkes showed themselves for the passengers .
This weekend is called “verslunarmannahelgi” (Merchants’ weekend) which is a 3 day weekend, with Monday being the holiday of the salespeople. Lately however the salespeople have been the only ones working at this very weekend, and everyone else goes out camping.
After a few days of minkes and dolphins a blue whale was spotted in Skjalfandi Bay this morning!! It is not very common to see the gigantic blue whales in Skjalfandi bay, so clearly an unforgettable experience for our passengers onboard Faldur, seeing the largest animal ever to wander the earth!

María has been preparing lately by gathering information about our oceanlife, history and surroundings of Húsavík, and today she did her first trip with Faldur, where she shared her wisdom and had a good first aproach.
Our passengers onboard this afternoon really enjoyed the trip onboard Faldur, after a long search for the whale. They finally spotted this friendly Minke Whale which gave thim the show a good Minke should!! These photos are taken from the Crows Nest at Faldur by our guide Linda Guðrúnardóttir.

For the past days Skjalfandi bay has been crowded with minkes and dolphins.Minke whales can be very inquisitive and entertaining, and on our tours the minkes have often been spy-hopping or examining and swimming calmly by our boat.
Today the crew on Faldur spotted both a group of Humpbacks, and also Blue Whales in Skjálfandi bay. These are great news, and hopefully our gigantic visitors are here to stay for some time, like they did last year.
