Ciao bella megattera…

One of the most spectacular nights, thus far, by what must have been more than 10 humpback whales – known as megattera in Italian - in Skjálfandi bay. The night was special indeed as 3 different humpback whales breached for a total of 17 times! For gentle giant watchers Milena Forlani and Marco Petresini from Bergamo Italy, this is what they had to say…"E’ stata unésperienza unica ed emozionante.

Congratulations Iceland & all our customers …!!!

Today is the 17th of June – Iceland’s national day. It all happened on the 17th of June 1944, when Iceland declared full independence from Denmark.A great celebration will be held in Husavik today, organised by the town authorities, the gymnastic and athletic teams in Husavik.

ENCOUNTERS OF THE CLOSEST KIND BY GENTLE GIANTS

     For head-guide Jesse Flores and captain Jon Christian, it was just another fine day for whale watching, clear skies and wavy - yet acceptable conditions. The journey started off as usual – happy whale watchers delighted to start their excursion around the beautiful and scenic realm of Skjalfandi bay.

PERFECT START FOR GENTLE GIANTS!!!

The 2006 start of the season for Gentle Giants has been thus far perfect! Our success rate for spotting whales has been 100%, thanks to the 5 humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins and the endless amount of seasonal seabirds within Skjálfandi Bay.

FIRST TOUR OF THE SEASON ... A HUMPBACK FESTIVAL!

This morning Gentle Giants’s boat FALDUR sailed out to Skjálfandi Bay for the first time this season in the search of whales, with a large group from Germany. Weather conditions were excellent – bright sunshine and very light winds.

FIRST 4 ... THIS YEAR ...

This evening some of Gentle Giants crew members noticed that humpbacks had arrived into Skjálfandi Bay. Of course those crew members sailed out to Skjálfandi Bay to greet those magnificent animals. Just outside Husavik harbour a few big spouts were seen.

A good year behind - another better one ahead.....

The major change last year was a new boat in the company’s fleet. AÞENA ÞH was added to Gentle Giants fleet in the start of the season. Aþena, built in the year 2000 in Hafnarfjordur, and rebuilt in 2005 especially for Gentle Giants, made the ideal Whale Watching - and sea-angling boat, with all the comfort of a passenger boat.
