PERFECT START OF MY GUIDING SEASON

I just arrived back to Húsavík to be a guide at Gentle Giants for the third time. I have been waiting for that moment for almost three quarters of a year, since I left this lovely little town last summer. It was a bit like coming home again.

Yesterday I started to work on the boats again. It was a bit strange to guide in the beginning as I haven’t done that for so many months. Therefore I had some difficulties to come up with the right words but all in all it worked quite well.

Anyway, in both of the trips we had such amazing encounters with the whales that I didn’t have to guide very much. The whales just made the show. In my second trip we spent time with two minke whales. They were always swimming together, which is quite unusual, since they travel alone most of the time. They never really dived but were always on the surface. We never had to wait very long and could come really, like REALLY close, almost touching them several times. And then, all of the sudden, they breached out of the water several times – only inches away.

So as a conclusion I’d say that those two trips were a perfect start in my guiding season and I really hope that it goes on like that. I’m highly motivated and really hope to satisfy as many passengers as possible.

Good luck to all of us!
