The other day we had a school group from the USA joining a GG2 Big Whale Safari & Puffins tour. 19 youths between the ages of 12 and 14 went out on two RIBs in pursuit of whales, puffins and thrilling speed on sea level.
May has been a super succesful month with many whales of all sizes and happy people - both crew and passengers.We are now ready to speed up a bit, and welcome June through increasing to nine daily departures: GG1 Whale Watching: The traditional tour on our oak boats.
One of our new crew members, Þórdís, has come quickly into her role as a guide and seems to enjoy it a lot. But who would not just love it during the amazing conditions that we have had recently.
Except for scheduled tours, Gentle Giants also organises tailor made trips upon request. On Tuesday 27th May, a group of travel agents from Reykjavík made their way up north. Their aim was to experience and better get to know the different possibilities that Húsavík and its surrounding area have to offer within tourism.

The whales have been many recently - blue whales and humpbacks included. The weather is nice and the forecast is good as well. Top whale watching these days with other words!It is always fun when our tours exceed our passengers’ expectations - and even better when they express their satisfaction after their experience with us.
Today we received the 2014 Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor. Like the years before, it is once again a great honour to recieve this award, as it is based on feedback from them who matter the most - our passengers.
What a morning! The passengers and crew on our 9:45 tour were very lucky. On this trip we encountered three humpback whales and the first blue whale of the year! The weather was great and people happy.
We have been lucky with the amount of humpback whales that feed in Skjálfandi Bay, in recent years and lately. They are great gentle giants to watch as they almost always raise their beautiful flukes up in the air before a deep dive, which is a breath-taking moment every time it happens.
May has so far been a good month whale-wise. Some tours have been extraordinary, like the other day when six minke whales were encountered during one single tour.That happened on the same day as we spotted the first arctic terns for this year.
