FIVE BLUE WHALES

We headed out on a complete calm bay and headed towards the area where I had seen the blue whales last night. It did not take long until I spotted the first blow far in the distance – clearly a blue whale blow.

FIVE SPECIES IN ONE DAY

Today I have spent my day out on Skjálfandi Bay with captain Bessi on board our boat Faldur. In three tours we have managed to look at a total of five different whale species, from the smallest one to the very biggest ones.

AMAZING BIG WHALE SHOW

Yesterday the blue gentle giants stayed the whole day in Skjálfandi Bay. They had company from humpbacks, minke whales and big groups of white-beaked dolphins. In the morning the blue whales were really active.

RETURN OF THE BLUE WHALES

After three days without seeing any big blues, they were back in the bay earlier today. This morning on the 09:45 trip we got three of those gentle giants around the boat. The blows could be seen from far away and when we came closer we saw the huge blue backs coming out of the water - always a gorgeous experience.

SPECTACULAR WHALES

After we participated successfully in the big rescue drill, we went out in the bay looking for whales again. And we did find them. During the last days we watched amazing minke whales feeding on the surface, coming up with their mouths open, full of fish and sea water.

BLUE + HUMP

The big blues are still around and have been spotted on some of the tours the last days. This morning, passengers and crew on board Faldur got the privilege to be in the presence of a mighty blue whale and a humpback whale, as well as seeing a group of white-beaked dolphins.

GG RESCUE DRILL

Yesterday morning the GG crew gathered together down the harbour for a rescue drill. This is something we do regularly to keep the safety routines fresh in mind. We have done it many times before but we think safety can not be practised too much.

FASTER, BIGGER, CLOSER

At first we had the honour to watch two blue whales – the biggest animals that have ever lived on earth. When we arrived in the area where the whales were swimming around, something extraordinary happened – one of the blue whales was raising the fluke out of the water before its deep dive! The next 45 minutes we had a great time with those two Ocean Giants.

WHALES IN HEAVEN

Today it was a beautiful morning in Skjálfandi Bay. On the 09:45 trip we got the chance to sail once more in perfect conditions - flat sea, shining sun, no wind, warm temperatures and crystal clear water.
