TOURIST GUIDE STUDENTS VISIT US

Yesterday we had a nice visit from a class of Chinese tourist guide students from the Icelandic School of Travel and Tourism. They were on a field trip and we invited them out for whale watching to experience what Húsavík and Gentle Giants has to offer.

SAILING AGAIN - 2 HUMPBACKS

We could finally go out whale watching today after two stormy days and cancelled trips. It is always exciting to go out after such storms and see what Skjálfandi Bay has to offer. Two humpbacks were spotted in the bay today, the first humpbacks that we see since our season started.

BLUE SKY, BLUE OCEAN, BLUE WHALE

"Blue sky, blue ocean, blue whale. Obsessed with days like today". This is how guide Charla describes her experience after a very successful tour this morning. Imagine being in the presence of the largest animal on earth.

TWO BLUE WHALES TODAY

On our 9:45 tour today, the passengers and crew were lucky enough to spot not one, but two giants in the bay! On a perfectly calm and clear day at sea, two blue whales were busy feeding. One of them repeatedly showed the fluke and was even rolling at the surface as it fed on the krill below, much to the delight of everyone on board.

BLUE WHALE IN SKJÁLFANDI BAY

On today's tour, crew and passengers on board Faldur were privileged to be in the presence of the largest animal on earth. This is what our guide Charla said after the tour: "It was a sunny Sunday morning out on the bay, and along with the beautiful weather on our 9:45 tour came a beautiful blue whale! The early arrival of the blue whale, the largest animal on earth, along with the sunshine is a sure sign of spring in Húsavík and an exciting whale watching season ahead at Gentle Giants".

SEASON START APRIL 1ST

Soon it is here: April 1st which means the very first tour of the year. It is always one of the most exciting ones as we have waited and prepared for it since last autumn. Our oak boat Faldur will start the season with crew and passengers – for the 15th season! The chances are big for a great premiere tour as we know there have already been whales of all sizes in Skjálfandi Bay this year.
