LUCKY WHALE WATCHERS

On both my “GG2 Big Whale Safari and Puffins” - trips today numerous whales filled us with joy by jumping majestically out of the water. On the first tour a humpback whale showed off for several minutes by lifting its huge body out of the water over and over again.

CURIOUS HUMPBACK WHALES IN THE BAY

In recent days a couple of humpback whales approached our boats several times to have a closer look at us! Sometimes it wasn't clear anymore whether we were the ones doing whale watching or if it was the gentle giants of the ocean doing human watching around our boats! See it for yourself on the video Daniel González, on of our guides, took the other day - or visit us in Húsavík and join a trip to see the wildlife of Skjálfandi Bay! See Daniel's full video here: https://www.

THE TAGGED BLUE WHALE

Much to everyone's delight, the blue whale was seen in the bay again last night, and was still around this morning as well! Last night both the GG1 and GG2 tours watched this giant whale during a sunset and even a beautiful rainbow, making the experience seem almost surreal.

MORE BIG BLUE SURPRISES

Yesterday, the blue whale was spotted again on several tours, delighting everyone since it quite rare to see one of these giants at this time of the year. Normally by now, the blue whales have passed by and are further north in their arctic feeding grounds, but as we know so well, wild nature is always full of surprises! Blue whales are usually diving to depths of approximately 100 meters while feedings, and holding their breath for up to 20 minutes, so watching the largest animal on earth can take some patience and perseverance, but the reward is incredible when you see the whale emerge with a powerful exhale creating a 9 meter high cloud! On both our evening GG1 tour and GG2 tour everyone got a perfect look as it was swimming slowly and calmly in the beautiful summer evening light.

ACROBATS OF THE OCEAN

What an amazing time out on the water on yet another day with the passengers of the cruise ship "Ocean Diamond" (Iceland Pro Cruises)! Both, guests and crews on-board, were enjoying the boat ride in the bay and the placid calm water which looked like a mirror throughout the trips early this morning.

THE LOVELY BLUE

Yesterday our boats got surprised by a gentle blue whale roaming the bay. However, today started just as good since the blue whale was still in Skjálfandi Bay and could be seen from the RIB speed boats as well as the oak boats.

A GIANT SURPRISE IN THE AFTERNOON

In the early afternoon all of us got surprised by a gentle giant visiting Skjálfandi Bay. Though unusual at this time of the year, a blue whale paid our boats a visit. Both, RIB and oak boats were able to admire the largest animal that has ever lived on earth.

LOADS OF TOURS, WHALE WATCHERS AND WHALES

After we had to cancel all our departures due to bad sea conditions yesterday (08.07.16) we could sail as scheduled today. As on many days throughout the last weeks we added several extra departures on our RIB speed boats for the "GG2 Big Whale Safari and Puffins".

SAFETY TRAINING AT GENTLE GIANTS

Early this morning our crew met up for a rescue drill on-board our oak boat Sylvía. Whilst the town was still asleep all of us headed out to the outer harbour to train rescue procedures as “Man over board”.

SUNSHINE, CALM SEA, FISH AND WHALES

This morning – after a couple of stormy days – the weather surprised us once again, positively this time! Sunshine, blue sky and a calm sea were awaiting us, boats filled up quickly and several RIB speed boat extra departures were added to give everyone the chance to experience Skjálfandi-Bay at its best.
