
“Watching the blue whale through the telescope in my apartment! So exciting. Best way to spend my Sunday!” It is winter in Húsavík. Unbelievable but true, there have been on and off reports of blue whale sightings in Skjálfandi Bay last week.
Humpback whales have been very frequent visitors in Skjálfandi Bay. They are magnificent animals and witnessing a humpback taking a dive and raising its fluke out of the water is amazing. But the fluke is more than just beauty, it can give researchers valuable information as each fluke is unique - just like our fingerprints.
Time flies and today there are six weeks until we start our 2016 season. The first tour of the year is scheduled on 1st April at 9:45. It is soon time for our boats to head out on Skjálfandi Bay again with whale watchers in search of the giants of the ocean.
The annual Mid-Atlantic Tradeshow was held in Reykjavík last weekend and Gentle Giants took an active part. Never before have so many people attended. All in all we were around 850 participants, thereof 530 foreign guests from 21 nationalities.
Mid-Atlantic Tradeshow starts tomorrow in Reykjavík and Gentle Giants will be there. We are warming up for the event and are looking very much forward to it. Gentle Giants is located at booth S22, where our sales team Stefán, Halli, Alexia and Daniel will welcome you with a giant smile.
Our online job application form for season 2016 has been open for several weeks and we have received many great applications from all over the world. The deadline for applying for a job is on 31st January and we are searching for guides and ticket sales staff for the upcoming season.
Yesterday Gentle Giants participated in the annual Mannamót – Natural Iceland Tourism Workshop, which was held at Eagle Air Headquarters in Reykjavík. CEO & Marketing Manager Stefán and Sales Manager Halli represented the company and were happy with the event.
During the winter months, there is little going on within tourism in Húsavík. GG staff member and journalist Alexia Annisius Askelöf went home to her family in Húsavík for Christmas and used the opportunity to make a travel reportage from our fishing village.
Yet another year has gone by, a year full of exciting moments and successful operation. It is time to focus on new opportunities to come, but before leaving 2015 behind, we would like to bring you back to some of the last season’s highlights.
