HAPPY HOLIDAYS 2017
We send our warmest holiday greetings to you all. Thank you for joining us into yet another year.
We send our warmest holiday greetings to you all. Thank you for joining us into yet another year.
Only one week left until Christmas and the crew of Gentle Giants is sensing a nice holiday feeling getting stronger day by day. It started some weeks ago when our Fleet Manager Kalli went around Húsavík harbour and decorated our boats and houses with colourful light strings.
Would you dare to travel without money? How would it even be possible? Mert Gültekin knows – and he does. This artistic student from Istanbul, Turkey, gets around the world with empty pockets. His key to success is to exchange drawings and paintings for food, accommodation or money that pays for activities along the way.
Yet another great whale watching season has come to an end. We'd like to thank all our passengers for having joined our tours, but also our crew on land and on the boats for coming from near and far to make the tours possible.
For several days we were unfortunaly unable to sail due to a strong storm passing by the country. Finally today, the weather and sea conditions were all on our side again (apart from the cold perhaps): We couldn't wait to get back on the boat and sail out into Skjálfandi Bay.
November certainly brought the cold and with it came a whole different yet beautiful scenery:Nicolas Dubois, who is currently working as a researcher at the University of Iceland's Research Center in Húsavík, captured this beautiful shot of our oak boat Sylvía and a humpback whale lifting its fluke out of the water.
November arrived and along with it came the snow and the cold. The whales however don't seem to care at all. Several humpback whales still enjoy the fish and krill the bay has to offer.
Tomorrow, 31st of October, our RIB speed boat Amma Sigga departs for the last "GG2 Big Whale Safari" this season. Don't miss out on your chance of a lifetime experience whilst cruising through Skjálfandi Bay: The speed of the boat allows us to cover a great area of the bay to get you the best views possible of our beloved humpback whales.
Gentle Giants Whale Watching offers a wide range of seafaring tours as wildlife watching, fishing trips and visits to the nearby islands, just to name a few. Along that, we are happy to arrange and plan any kind of tailor made tours for our customers.
Whale-wise October has been a great month so far. Our beloved humpback whales are still in the bay - often two or three individuals are seen in the same area near the Cheek Mountains. As the days get colder, one can see their spouts from far: clouds of steam arise from the surface as the whales exhale air.
