Sometimes weather just doesn’t look favourable – but then moments later you float next to a huge humpback, which is making up for everything: The other day fog made us play hide and seek with two humpback whales.
Humpback whales have been sighted daily now since the beginning of May. In various areas of the bay they've been showing all kinds of behaviours. Some were travelling, others resting. Again different individuals were seen feeding at the mountain side whilst others seemed to celebrate the for some time summer-like weather by jumping high out of the water - again and again.
Without doubts May started great: both, humpbacks and minkes are feeding in the bay, but also killer whales (orcas) visited us once again yesterday morning! Even better, one of the males demonstrated a majestic jump, which couldn't be captured any better than on the photo taken by Diana Beringschmidt.
BLUE WHALE, HUMPBACKS, ORCAS, MINKE, DOLPHINS SEEN ON SAME TOUR Even though April was just the beginning of the season, it has been a pretty spectacular month. Many different and furthermore rare visitors welcomed our whale watching boats in Skjálfandi Bay.
Short after our RIB speed boat Amma Sigga had left the harbor this morning, the crew onboard informed the ticket center that a humpback whale was sighted in the bay. At the moment, both our boats are watching the whale.
After also yesterday‘s tours continued just as great with orcas and fin whales seen in the bay, this morning boats have sighted a humpback whale shortly after leaving the harbor. Humpback whales are the most common whale here in Skjálfandi Bay during the summer time.
Despite the weather, our morning started as good as it could get with a killer whale being sighted short after the boats had left the harbor.It‘s the same male killer whale which was already seen by our RIB speed boat on the "GG2 Big Whale Safari and Puffins" tour two days ago.

After we were facing rather difficult conditions and little sightings at sea during the past days, good news reached our ticket center a short time ago: A male orca came to check out our RIB Amma Kibba on our "GG2 Big Whale Safari and Puffins" this afternoon.
From tomorrow, 15th of April, we will start sailing on our RIB speed boats again. The "GG2 Big Whale Safari and Puffins" is scheduled twice a day. We will depart at 9:30am as well as 12:30pm. Extra departures will be added depending on demand.
