JUST GETTING BETTER

  It seems like the whale season is starting for real now. Yesterday a nice group of white-beaked dolphins was swimming around the boat for half an hour. We got the chance to see them bow riding just in front of the boat.

SEA-ANGLING IN THE SUN

Today as well as yesterday we could enjoy Skjálfandi Bay in gorgeous weather. Hardly any wind was blowing and the bay has been showing its full beauty. This compensates us for the lack of the big whales which have not been seen during the last days, when we instead enjoyed the presence of the smaller ones.

SEASON GRADUALLY GROWING

It is getting warmer day by day, the snow is melting and the first waterfalls are running down the mountain hills. The puffins have reoccupied Puffin Island to prepare their burrows from last year, ready for a new breeding season.

WHALES BACK FOR WORK

This morning we started our trip in bright sunlight. It seemed like the sun got really motivated due to all the celebrations going on all over Iceland yesterday to welcome the summer.After one hour we reached the other site of the bay, where we saw some harbour porpoises swimming quickly through the water.

THE FIRST DAY OF SUMMER

Today it is the third Thursday in April and Iceland is celebrating one of its national holidays – Sumardagurinn fyrsti, The First Day of Summer.Nearly all the shops were closed and many festivities were going on all over the country – especially around Reykjavík.

GREAT SUCCESS WITH HUMPBACK WHALES

After a good start in the season yesterday we continued today in even better weather. The sun showed its full beauty during the whole trip and not a single cloud dared to cross its way.Due to the fantastic weather we could welcome five passengers on board.

BACK IN SKJÁLFANDI + FIRST FLIGHT TO HÚSAVÍK

Today we went out for the first trip of the season 2012 – earlier than ever before! In best whale watching conditions we sailed on to Skjálfandi Bay in search for whales. The bigger whales must have had a long lie this morning but we encountered lots of cute harbour porpoises.

FIRST TOUR ON SUNDAY

We do not count months or weeks anymore. It is only hours left until season 2012 starts on Sunday (15th April). Both crew and boat are ready to leave harbour for whale watching once again - even the weather forecast looks promising.

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

Today is 1st April and it is only two weeks left until our first whale watching tour will depart; 15th April – (not a joke!)   Faldur will be our first oak boat to enter Skjálfandi Bay 2012. He is still on dock for the annual beauty treatment but any day his keel will be wet again.
