SUPERB WHALE WATCHING CONTINUES

For several days we were unfortunaly unable to sail due to a strong storm passing by the country. Finally today, the weather and sea conditions were all on our side again (apart from the cold perhaps): We couldn't wait to get back on the boat and sail out into Skjálfandi Bay.

COLD BUT COSY

November certainly brought the cold and with it came a whole different yet beautiful scenery:Nicolas Dubois, who is currently working as a researcher at the University of Iceland's Research Center in Húsavík, captured this beautiful shot of our oak boat Sylvía and a humpback whale lifting its fluke out of the water.

NOVEMBER STARTING GREAT...

November arrived and along with it came the snow and the cold. The whales however don't seem to care at all. Several humpback whales still enjoy the fish and krill the bay has to offer.

A PLAY OF LIGHTS AND FLUKES

Whale-wise October has been a great month so far. Our beloved humpback whales are still in the bay - often two or three individuals are seen in the same area near the Cheek Mountains. As the days get colder, one can see their spouts from far: clouds of steam arise from the surface as the whales exhale air.

DOUBLE, TRIPLE, QUADRUPLE HUMPBACKS!

Though the humpback whales in the bay are generally solitary animals, always in the Autumn more than any other time, we start to see the whales coming together in pairs or even larger groups. Soon the humpback whales will be embarking on an amazing migration to the Caribbean or Cape Verde Island areas for their breeding season.

PERFECT DAYS AT SEA

October continues to be beautiful and humpback whales keep showing up on our tours. Yesterday a total of five individuals was spotted. They were all swimming nearby each other and for some time, two were even seen swimming side by side.

"WINTER IS COMING"

After a stormy day yesterday, the mountains of Skjálfandi Bay surprised us in their winter-dress this morning. Fresh snow is covering the peaks and made the place look much more October-like. Along that, three humpback whales were spotted on our tours and it seemed like the storm has brought some new food to the bay as the whales were seen actively feeding in the afternoon.
