Time flies when you're having fun, and fun we had in July! The weather has been fantastic almost throughout the entire month and the abundant presence and variety of marine wildlife in Skjálfandi Bay has simply been wonderful too.
We have had the immense pleasure of witnessing bubble net feeding humpbacks in the Bay lately. Everyone is waiting patiently for these gentle giants to emerge and all of a sudden big bubbles start appearing at the surface: at first just a couple, then more and more forming a circle.
July has arrived and sure to say that the high season has started. Weather has been amazing with high temperatures and sunshine and plenty of whales in the bay. Now from July we add several departures to our timetable so from early morning until late evening there are tours running from Húsavík.
Happy National Day! The 17th June is the National Day in Iceland and is widely celebrated. The whales in Skjálfandi Bay are also in a festive mood as captain Halli reported from RIB Amma Jóhanna this morning: "I counted at least 10 humpbacks in the bay in beautiful weather conditions".
What a fantastic start of the season with great weather, many visitors and lots of whales. Apart from the scheduled tours, there have been several private trips to Flatey Island and special trips on the RIB speedboats – such as the one earlier today a 50 min tour on the RIB that spotted the full house: harbour porpoises, white-beaked dolphins, minke whale, humpback whales and a BLUE WHALE.
This is it! After months of waiting, we are finally starting our season officially on June 1st. Daily scheduled tours will be offered from Húsavík on oak boats (GG1 Whale Watching) and RIB speedboats (GG2 Big Whale Safari & Puffins).

What an amazing adventure! The Oscars ceremony took place last night and the nominated song Husavik in the category "Best Original Song" did not win the Oscars – but indeed won people's hearts. Seeing the performance from Húsavík harbour with Swedish singer Molly Sandén and the local girls' choir was truly incredible and that in itself a huge achievement getting so far.
Húsavík has been very lively, full of action and in the spotlight all over the world in international media. Much excitement is in the air because of the Oscars nomination of the song "Husavik" from Will Ferrell's Netflix movie "Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga", where the town of Húsavík plays a major role.
Our "Queen" Sylvía is now in Akureyri shipyard getting her annual maintenance and beauty treatment so that she will be ready for the season start. Sylvía was built in Akureyri and is celebrating 45th birthday this year and starting her 15th season successfully sailing with whale watchers around Skjálfandi Bay.
