Lovely Minkes, tiny dolphin calves and a crazy humpback

Today again several different whales visited our bay. In the morning we crossed the bay all the way to the mountains on the other side. There we found a minke, which came surprisingly close to our boat – for a short check-out! We left that whale some time after and only a two minutes boat ride away a group of dolphins surrounded us.

SUCCESSFUL DAYS AT GENTLE GIANTS

The past days have continued very successful: Several humpbacks and minkes have been showing up throughout the trips. Also dolphins appeared in huge groups: often boats got surrounded by these lovely and playful animals – one didn’t even know where at to look first! Many groups had either juveniles or even new-born calves with them, what made it again more exciting.

A GUIDE'S FAVOURITE TOURS

During the summer time days are long in Iceland. For many weeks darkness doesn’t occur at all and even in August dusk starts late only. Hence, we also offer evening departures – one on the RIBs and another on the traditional oak boats.

THE VARIETY OF SPECIES

Today has been a very busy but also successful day. Close to Lundey - the Puffin Island - a group of dolphins paid several of our RIBs a visit. At the same time, a humpback was lunge feeding close to the beach and cliffs on the southern end of the bay.

MANY-SIDED WHALE WATCHING

After some stormy northerly winds didn’t allow us to sail yesterday, the sea calmed down over night. Hence, we could again depart as usual this morning. The day before yesterday, the blue-fin hybrid visited our bay another time.

ANOTHER EXCITING DAY ENDS

Today we look back on another exciting day out at sea. A few humpbacks showed off from their best side throughout the day and allowed our guests aboard to get some amazing views onto them. All of them were relaxing or feeding in an area close to the mountains.
