WHALES IN BEAUTIFUL WINTER WEATHER

The whale watching has been continuing very successful. Just today we got to see two humpbacks and two minkes – even better: they were all in the same area. There was no need to wait for a whale to surface again after a dive as one of them was up for breathing all the time.

A HUNGRY HUMPBACK

This morning on our 9:45 tour, along with two minke whale sightings, a humpback was seen busy feeding at the surface. This humpback was quite the sight for our crew and passengers, rolling at the surface and revealing it's throat grooves and baleen plates! The bay is a feeding ground for the humpbacks, and though many of them will be migrating south to tropical waters for the winter time, they have still been spotted almost daily this month.

BIG WHALE TIMES FOR THE SPEED BOAT

Today our 12:30 "GG2 Big Whale Safari" was able to spot three different whale species. Along them was the biggest animal existing on earth: a BLUE WHALE! Just as other species also blue whales are migrating between their feeding grounds up north and their breeding areas in low latitude waters.

FIN WHALES IN THE BAY!

A couple of minutes ago a phone call from our oak boat Sylvía reached the Ticket Center. The boat is currently out on the "GG1 Whale Watching"-trip. Sandra, the guide who spoke on the phone, had simply perfect news:55 passengers are watching two fin whales in the south of Skjálfandibay at the very moment!!!! Fin Whales are the second largest whale on earth.
