We are still in full swing with season 2018 and what a year it has been! Before starting the season here in Husavik there is always a lot of excitement in the air. After a winter of preparations and making everything ready, the drive and motivation is in full speed.
Vestnorden Travel Mart was held in Akureyri earlier this week and Gentle Giants was happily there to participate. This was the 33rd time that the event is held and it is an important trade show in the North Atlantic region, connecting tourism suppliers from Iceland, Faroe Islands and Greenland with buyers around the world.
An important thing in life is to collect memories. Working with whale watching a whole summer here in Husavik definitely guarantees a whole lot of them! We are now heading into what we call the "low season".
Yesterday we had a HUGE surprise when we headed out at sea in the morning. We saw not one, not two.. but SEVEN sperm whales! I myself had not seen these beautiful mammals in years. They are not very common here in the bay outside of Husavik.
Every new day spent out in the bay is something special - even for the crew. Often I'm asked by our guests onboard whether watching whales doesn't get boring at some point. No, it never does as there's no two days, not even two tours, turning out to be the same.
The host of exciting and educational television series such as “Walking with Dinosaurs” joined researcher/guide Charla onboard a lovely RIB speedboat tour with CEO/Captain Stefan and guide Trina earlier this month.
The other day I went out on one of our morning trips. It has been great out here on the bay in August, and today we are half way through this beautiful month where we can see the season changing! We have had many different species visiting the bay these past two weeks.

Húsavík is a small town with only a couple of thousand inhabitants. Nevertheless, it got a huge community. Many people are connected in a lot of different ways. By coming here, you would be surprised of how vibrant and lively the atmosphere is here in town.
