HUMPBACKS + MINKES + DOLPHINS + HARBOUR PORPOISES

After several cold days, the weather is getting better; the sea is calm and the temperature is expected to rise for the coming days. During the morning trips today we have had Minke whales, Dolphins and Harbour porpoise.

JULY SCHEDULE IS ON

Now in July we offer a fuller schedule of trips for our famous whale watching trips:  8:45, 9:45, 12:00, 13:15, 15:15, 16:45, 20:15.  We hope everyone will have a time to fit their own schedule!  Looking forward to receiving you in Húsavík! The GG team.

RESCUE DRILL ONBOARD SYLVIA

Alexia Askelöf is our newest crew member from Sweden and will be joining our team this summer. She arrived a few weeks ago, and her time of training has been absolutely “perfect”! This is what she had to say about her first impression of Skjálfandi Bay: María and I had the 12 o’clock tour together, two days ago on Faldur.

FIVE BLUE WHALES IN THE BAY!

In our trip at 13:15 today our guides Daniel and Lia spotted five Blue whales, and some of them appeared only few meters from the boat of a great pleasure for the passengers.

Big whales and sun in Skjalfandi Bay!

After experience very cold northern climate for the past days, the sun is shining again in Skjalfandi Bay. Despite cold and wavy trips, the crew of Faldur and Sylvia has spotted big animals in the bay; Blue whales, up to five at the time, Humpback whales in close distance and jumping, and other smaller species, in small and large groups.

A PASSION FOR WHALES

For some people one or two whale watching tours are not enough. Some people join many tours with us to see the giants of Skjalfandi Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Domeratzki from Germany are visiting Iceland for their first time.

HUMPBACKS RETURN

The blue whales we had in the bay (see our article from 4th June), unfortunately did not stay here for long. After they left the bay we had a few days of minke whales, dolphins and harbour porpoises – it seemed that the larger whales had moved further out of the bay.

FIRST BLUE WHALES OF THE SEASON

This morning the first Blue Whales of the season were spotted by our captain Bessi on board Faldur. We started our trip going south west and after 45 minutes approx. a difficult Minke whale was spotted.
