SPRING VIBES BRING ALONG THREE HUMPBACK WHALES
These last few days, we’ve had some beautiful spring weather, with the sun finally showing up for us out on Skjálfandi Bay. And as the temperatures slowly rise, the snow has started to melt as well — bringing a whole new vibe!
Besides that, after humpback whale Morrigan appeared earlier this month, another individual was spotted yesterday afternoon on Sylvía’s way back to port. Unlike Morrigan, which had visited our bay already in the past, this whale turned out to be a newcomer to the area!
Today, we headed out full of hope to find it again — and we were not disappointed! However, the newcomer wasn’t alone and had brought another humpback whale along (also a newbie it seems). Both were busy feeding, not minding our presence at all, simply going about their business.
Later in the afternoon, far to the north, another spout appeared, and shortly after, a third humpback decided to join the feast alongside the other two. Significantly larger than the others, this one proved shy when it came to lifting its flukes, which means it remains a mystery for now whether we know it or not!
In the meantime, we’re crossing fingers and fins that the three whales stick around — until more humpback whales return in the coming days!
