We are incredibly proud to share some wonderful news: Fish & Chips Lake Mývatn has won International Fish and Chip Operator of the Year 2026 at the prestigious National Fish & Chip Awards, held yesterday in London.
This success feels especially close to us at Gentle Giants. Our owners, Stefán and Jóhanna (Mr. and Mrs. Boss), together with local friends, are also owners of Fish & Chips Lake Mývatn. Stefán and his partners come from a long line of fishermen. Since 2022, the fish and chips shop has built a strong reputation among visitors and locals alike, known for its high-quality fish, perfectly crispy chips, and warm, welcoming atmosphere in the heart of Lake Mývatn.

The National Fish and Chip Awards celebrate the best of the best in the industry. It is the UK’s official competition, organised by the National Federation of Fish Friers, rewarding excellence within the fish and chip sector since 1988. The International Operator category specifically recognises outstanding fish and chip businesses operating outside the UK that maintain exceptional standards while honouring the heritage of this iconic dish. This is the first time an Icelandic company has received this award.
