Strengthening Connections in the North Atlantic
This autumn, Gentle Giants Whale Watching attended the 40th edition of the Vestnorden Travel Mart, held in Akureyri — a major tourism trade event in the North Atlantic region connecting tourism suppliers from Iceland, Faroe Islands and Greenland with buyers around the world.
We were proud to once again present our company and tours, meet with international buyers, old friends, and build new relationships that will support tourism in northern Iceland.
As part of the program, buyers also had the opportunity to join one of our tours on the second afternoon of the Travel Mart. The experience included a visit to Flatey Island, the “little paradise” of Skjálfandi Bay, where guests explored the lighthouse and visited our facilities on the island, including the environmentally friendly restaurant building Smiðjan, where they were served fresh fish soup made from local ingredients. Throughout the summer, we also offer tailormade tours to Flatey Island, giving visitors the chance to explore the island’s unique beauty and enjoy a truly personalized experience. This immersive tour gave buyers a real sense of the unique experiences they can offer their clients. And of course, whale watching did not come short on the way out to the island!
As always, the Travel Mart ended with a festive gala dinner, where guests mingled, danced, and said their goodbyes — until next time.
We left Vestnorden feeling motivated and excited about the future: with new contacts, collaborations and ideas that will help us refine our tours and reach new guests from around the world.
