MY BEST WHALE MOMENTS OF THE SEASON AS A GUIDE

Black and White Picture Of A Humpback Whale Blow

Working as a guide means spending countless hours out at sea, witnessing incredible moments most people never get to see. Beyond the amazing guests and sailing adventures, this season brought some truly unforgettable whale encounters, including:

  • Two whales breaching together
  • A baby minke whale bow-riding for 25 minutes
  • A northern bottlenose baby whale jumping 7 times in a row
  • A curious baby pilot whale leaving its pod, breaching near our boat, checking us out, then returning to the group
  • Bottlenose dolphins (first sighting in Skjálfandi Bay this year!) chasing and speeding behind long-finned pilot whales
  • Six humpbacks lunge-feeding at the same time
  • One humpback showed almost every behavior in a single tour, lunge feeding, rolling, pectoral slapping, tail slapping, and breaching
  • One humpback kept breaching for more than an hour

And those magical jumping dolphins under the glow of the midnight sun

Every day at sea is different, but moments like these remind me why I love this job so much!!
