But while we’re focused on the experience, we’re also deeply committed to something just as important: your safety. That’s why every month, our team takes part in rescue and safety drills—to stay prepared for any situation at sea.

Last month, our guides and captains participated in rescue and emergency response drills on both our traditional oak boats and our RIB boats.

Hallgrímur Guðmundsson,
our head captain of the oak boats, walked the crew through the safety features on board Sylvía and Faldur. He pointed out important emergency equipment like first aid kits, fire extinguishers, life rings, and life rafts, explaining how each one works and when to use them.

After that, the crew took turns throwing life rings and answering questions about how to react in different emergency scenarios.

On the RIB side, Sverrir Yngvi Karlsson, our head captain for the RIB boats, led a similar training on Amma Helga, Jóhanna, Sigga, and Kibba. He showed the emergency procedures for each vessel, and the crew even got to practice driving the boats—ensuring that everyone knows what to do, no matter the situation.

This month, we also hosted a first aid course for our guides, captains, and ticket center staff, led by Eysteinn Heiðar Kristjánsson, a local paramedic in Húsavík who has years of experience teaching emergency care.

Eysteinn walked us through the importance of first aid, explained common emergency scenarios that might happen on a boat, and showed us how to respond quickly and calmly.

At the end of the course, everyone had the chance to practice CPR on a training dummy, which was connected to an app that gave real-time feedback and scored each attempt.

Safety is one of our top priorities
, and we make sure that all of our staff are trained, confident, and ready—so that when you come whale watching with us, you can fully enjoy the experience, knowing you're in good hands.
