AUGUST BREEZE

August has finished full of memories and we gathered the remarkable moments that we had!

The weather was favourable and the sea was calm most of the time throughout the month allowing us to joy and explore the wildlife in Skjálfandi Bay!

Many species were seen in the bay: humpbacks whales, white beaked dolphins, minke whales were regular visitors and sighted several times during our tours. Even the mysterious bottlenose whales were around and observed in some occasions.

Several humpback whales were spotted in the bay at the same time and different types of activities were observed. Sometimes, humpback whales were seen feeding in the deep waters and in other occasions resting and sleeping at the surface, saving their energy for the winter season. Other individuals were more active, occasionally displaying acrobatic behaviours such as breaching, tail slap and pectoral fin slapping.

We proudly saw the puffins preparing for winter season, witnessing the adults and chicks leave their breeding colonies towards the offshore waters until the next spring!

While ones are leaving other may stay! Numerous groups of white beaked dolphins were frequently seen in Skjálfandi Bay, sometimes in super pods with 40-50 individuals, where adults were followed by their playful calves and juveniles.

The long summer days are far away and the sunsets on the last tours of the day were taking place. Northern lights are already in our minds as we are getting to the end of the month!

As the rushy high season is slowing down, available tours during September may have different schedules offering suitable departures, throughout the day every day!

Looking forward to discover what September may reserve for us!
