SKJÁLFANDI BAY FULL OF WILDLIFE

humpback in the evening sun

The last weekend was filled with excitement as we sailed out to Skjálfandi Bay several times a day. During the trips we spotted a total of five different whale species: whilst on all our tours several humpbacks whales were spotted, also dolphins, minke whales and harbour porpoises were seen several times. As of the 5th species, we couldn't have asked for more as the largest mammal on earth paid us a visit: the blue whale!
Apart from whales, especially the scenic mountainside was visited by many different bird species (gannets, puffins, fulmars, kittiwakes, arctic terns - to name a few) and on and off, even a seal appeared on the so-called "Fish Rock".
