STUDYING MARINE MAMMALS IN THE WILD

Last week students completed the annual "studying marine mammals in the wild course" at the University of Iceland's Húsavík Research Center. They joined us first on several trips with researcher/guide Charla Basran learning about the amazing wildlife in our bay and how to identify the individuals we see here. Then they continued joining us to practice conducting their own research projects. In the end the students present what they have been working on including humpback whale identification and scar analysis, whale behaviours, and analyzing marine debris found in the area.

Every year we look forward at Gentle Giants to having the students on board to exchange knowledge about the incredible ecosystem and animals we are privileged to spend time with every day!
