GUIDE MIRO SHARES YESTERDAY'S TOUR

What brings the staff of Gentle Giants together is our passion for whales and their surrounding nature. Life as a whale watching guide is forever fascinating as every new departure is a unique adventure, which our guide Miro's story from yesterday's tour proves:

Wild nature of Skjálfandi Bay, some tours are better than others and some can not get any better! And exactly one tour like mentioned last we experienced yesterday.

After we started there was nothing happening for quite some time, until our captain Halli got a call from another boat, there were some dolphins spotted. It took some time until we spotted them. They were travelling into the bay in high speed. A big pod of 50 plus dolphins. Soon after we reached them we spotted a huge blow right between them, and we knew it was something much bigger.

But the dolphins didn't stop. We didn't want to lose them so we continued with them. Some were surfing the waves of the boat until suddenly they changed their behaviour, swimming everywhere around on one spot, plus a lot of birds flying around. Then again the huge blow appeared! We couldn't identify right at the moment exactly what it was, as it went for the dive quickly. But it looked like all animals were feeding together.

The dolphins started to move a little bit again and we were following them. Until after a couple of minutes, boom, the giant appeared again. This time right next to our boat! It was a fin whale visiting our bay. A few more breaths on the surface before it went for the dive, and it also disappeared.

We spent some more time with the dolphins before starting our journey back to Húsavík. We didn't see that fin whale again. Anyway – what a day! Thank you captain Halli!
