SOCIAL BEINGS

three humpbacks leaving for dive

Humpback whales are known to be solidarity animals and especially here in their feeding grounds tend to stay for themselves. Therefore it is rather special seeing several of them together, swimming and surfacing side by side. The other day we saw up to six whales swimming in a "group": they'd surface simultaneously in order to breath and even left for the next dive all at once, following each other to the depths of the ocean - only to show up again all together just minutes later. The whales sticked to each other's sides for several hours, but then splitted up to go their own ways.
