LOADS OF DIFFERENT THINGS GOING ON AT GENTLE GIANTS

Humpback whale surfacing near boat

Yesterday, for the second time this season the cruise ship “Ocean Diamond” from Iceland Pro Cruises entered the harbour of Húsavík. More than 60 whale-enthusiasts boarded our whale watching boats excited about the wildlife in Skjálfandi Bay. Two of our speed boats as well as the oak boat Faldur departed in the early morning. The different crews were able to show 5 different humpback whales along minke whales and dolphins to their passengers.

Short after, our second oak boat Sylvía left the harbour for the first time this season to sail the scheduled 9.45 "GG1 Whale Watching" tour.

Just the day before, our first trip to Flatey Island took place on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The sun was blessing us and the sea was flat like a mirror. On the way out to the island we got to see a lovely humpback whale as well as jumping porpoises. Flatey itself is not only exceptional beautiful and a remote place out in the bay, but also hosts more than 30 different bird species during the summer months, most of them arriving for their annual breeding season.

In addition to that, the past two weeks loads of extra tours were added to our scheduled departures for the “GG2 Big Whale Safari and Puffins” on our RIB speed boats.

Join us on of our exciting trips out in Skjálfandi Bay!

The kitchen and front cabin of Sylvía prepared for the boat's first departure this season.

All equipment including loads of overalls had to be brought to Sylvía. Guide Ricardo is making order and hanging them up in the middle cabin.

More and more overalls and raincoats are on their way back to Sylvía.

Sightings of humpback whales have been extremely good throughout the past weeks. Many of them surfaced as close as the one photographed below. As the request was high, we added several extra departures for our GG2 Big Whale Safari and Puffins on our RIB speed boats!

Another really close humpback whale encounter: Have a good look at the photo - it's possible to see the whale's entire head below the surface!
