THE HUMPBACK ORIEN RETURNS

Just as before, also during the past days our encounters with humpback whales have been fabulous! Several individuals keep staying in different areas of the bay and were sighted on all our departures. Above all, we had many close encounters with these magnificent animals and some even delivered a great show by being very acrobatic.
Among all, some of these humpbacks have been recognized as individuals which have been visiting our bay in previous years. One example is so-called Orien, which you can see on the photo. Orien was first sighted in 2013 and whilst not being seen in 2014, he showed up again last year. Just a few days ago Orien has entered Skjálfandi Bay for another visit. Humpback whales can be identified on the black and white pattern on the underside of their fluke (tail) and are catalogued by the researchers working in Húsavík.
The photos of Orien are taken by our guide Charla Basran.
