SUCCESSFUL MID-ATLANTIC 2016

Mid-Atlantic 2016

The annual Mid-Atlantic Tradeshow was held in Reykjavík last weekend and Gentle Giants took an active part. Never before have so many people attended. All in all we were around 850 participants, thereof 530 foreign guests from 21 nationalities. We are very happy with this year’s Mid-Atlantic and present our day by day report written by Daniel and Alexia who were two of the representatives of Gentle Giants.

Thursday 4th February

The event officially started in the evening with an opening ceremony and get-together at Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Center. Great food was served and we had time for mingling in this nice building.

Friday 5th February

We arrived early to Laugardalshöll Sportshall for the last preparations of our booth, which got a lot of compliments throughout the day. Meetings started just after 09:00 and continued with a steady flow of guests to our booth until 16:30. Together with Stefán and Halli we represented the company and presented our exciting adventures from Húsavík. It was great to meet near and dear friends as well as establishing new contacts within the tourism industry. Altogether, it was a very successful tradeshow, which ended with a “Hel Yeah – Helsinki Happy Hour”.

In the evening a gala dinner was held in Laugardalshöll Sportshall, sponsored by Edmonton and Jasper. The three-course menu was impressive with lots of delicious local flavours from Canada, as well as fun entertainment and good company.

Saturday 6th February

International guests at Mid-Atlantic get the opportunity to join post-tours in connection to the tradeshow. One of those excursions was the “Arctic North Húsavík & Ásbyrgi”. It visited some of the tourism highlights of the northeast and the plan was to include a RIB speedboat tour with Gentle Giants. Icelandic weather is unpredictable and due to bad sea conditions, we had to cancel the boat tour. Instead, our team in the north, Kalli, Sverrir and Charla, welcomed the 18 travel agents to Húsavík, showed them our boats and offered light snacks. It was successful indeed, despite the weather and change of plans.

We would like to give giant thanks to all the guests who visited our booth and Húsavík, and last but not least, the organisers of Icelandair Mid-Atlantic Tradeshow for the memorable event!
