CHILDREN DISCOVERING SEA ANGLING

Not only whale watching is popular with all age groups and therefore a fascinating experience, but also sea angling can be exciting for the young and the old. The other day I boarded a group of twelve passengers on our sea angling boat Athena. To my surprise, many of them were young children. Most of them were living far from the sea and had never done anything like that, not to speak of being on a boat. In the beginning, their doings appeared quite awkward, but they were fast learners and radiated their joy and excitement. As some of them were really young and for that reason not able to speak English, my communication possibilities (at least in words) were limited. But the children found a way. The youngest - a girl - was tugging my sleeves frequently showing the size of the fish, which they just caught, with her small hands. Every now and then she was screaming: “Biiiiiiig fish!” Another time she came, raised her hands up whilst shaking her head, pointing at the fish then of which they couldn’t remove the hook. Also her brother was jogging my elbow every time he caught a fish – his eyes shining proudly.

The most touching moment was when we left the boat walking up the pear. The small girl ran after me reaching for my hand and then jigging next to me all the way up to the street saying “Thank you” again and again whilst laughing keenly.

Watch the pictures below – they speak for themselves.
