BIG WHALE MEMORIES
Yesterday the local town festival Mærudagar started here in Húsavík. It is a four day long festivity with constant happenings down in the harbour and the different areas of town decorated in the three candy colors; pink, green and orange.
This is always a very fun time with lots of things going on, but for me these days remind me of more than street food, live music and partying. Last year during Mærudagar we had a quite special whale visiting our bay, and I had the most remarkable and memorable trip of my life;
I was going out on Amma Sigga when all of a sudden we realize we have a whale approaching us instead of the other way around. This whale was staying with us for a long time, checking us out and relaxing only a few centimetres away from our boat. Nature is unpredictable, whales are unpredictable and every now and then unexplainable and extraordinary things like this happen.
Photos from this tour can now be seen on the front page of our brochure and I will carry the memories of this experience for the rest of my life, just as I imagine everyone on board Amma Sigga that day does. When I think back at it I realize how lucky I am to have this job and what a wonderful thing it is that I every day get to be a part of giving people memories that are going to last for a life time; whether it is seeing a humpback whale feeding, watching a blue whale or having these once in a life time moments like on Amma Sigga last year. I am so happy to be here and that I get to watch the most fascinating animals on the planet together with all of you. Don’t miss the chance to go whale watching!
