JACKPOT IN WHALES

It is not often that I get to show all the whales again which I introduced to my passengers in the beginning of the tour, but it happened yesterday. A jackpot in whale species!

At 9:45 captain Kúti and I crossed a beautiful Skjálfandi Bay together with our passengers on board Faldur. We headed towards the mountains where we saw the blue whale and humpback the day before. On our way we passed some shy harbour porpoises, but the real show started right outside Nausavík where one blow appeared after another.

We had landed in the middle of an area with probably at least four humpbacks and two minkes, which were all busy doing what our big whales are here for; feeding. It is not bad when you have such a selection of whales to choose from. I remember the sound of our passengers' rattling cameras.

We spent some good time among the whales, which seemed so busy eating that I guess they barely noticed we were there. Before turning back home to Húsavík harbour we were met by a fantastic group of white-beaked dolphins - the first of the season actually. While sailing, some of them hooked up with us to bow-ride for some time. To stand in the front of the boat and look down at those agile and fast beauties, which join us just for fun, is amazing.

Just before we reached harbour I showed my passengers the whale book again, and all the whales which I had introduced to them in the beginning of our tour. I can tell you that as a guide, that is a really satisfying feeling!

It is an amazing feeling to sail with bow-riding dolphins,
which was a part of Gentle Giants' jackpot tour yesterday.
