UNCOMMON VISITORS IN THE BAY

The last days several (or many) humpbacks have been found in the north-west part of the bay. So also this morning when I went out as second guide on Sylvía, which was full at 9:45.

When we have such “treasures” in one specific area for a long time, it might be easy to forget the rest of the bay. So at 15:15 Captain Bessi decided to go south (which has not been explored for some time) into the bay and there they found two northern bottlenose whales; a mother and a calf.

Those funny looking whales (up to 9 metres and 8 tonnes) do not belong to our common sightings. 2009 there were two of them here for two weeks or so – as if they were lost – and no one knew why. They tend to pop into the bay in the autumn.

Every tour is a new adventure, not only for the passengers but also for the crew. Anything could happen from the moment you leave harbour until the moment you return. That is what makes our whale watching so exciting! Come and experience it with us - The fauna in Skjálfandi is still blooming!
