LOTS OF WHALES IN BEAUTIFUL WEATHER
My face was one big happy smile when I entered Skjálfandi Bay this morning. Finally it seemed that summer had arrived to us and the weather conditions were stunning – calm sea, clear sky and perfect visibility.
I took the 9:45 tour onboard Sylvía, together with our newest crew member Ann-Sophie from Germany. It didn’t take us long until we came across a big group of white-beaked dolphins – even some mothers with their calves.
As the visibility was so good, we found the blows from the big whales from a long distance. When we came there, we discovered that we were surrounded by BIG whales – humpbacks, a fin whale and several blue whales!
Onboard was a 84 year old woman from Italy who was thrilled with the tour. She had not expected this whale festival and getting the chance to witness some of the largest giants on earth, just a few metres away.
Hopefully the weather and whale conditions in Skjálfandi Bay will continue like this …
