HERE MY DREAMS COME TRUE

I’ve always had two dreams. One about whales – the magic mammals of the ocean. The other about Iceland – the amazing country of fire and ice. It’s sometimes hard for me to grab, but I’ve actually been lucky enough to combine my two dreams and make them both come true. Here, as a whale watching guide at Gentle Giants.

Seeing dolphins once, way back, was enough to make me realise that whales was my thing. There is something special about them, something supernatural that instantly caught my interest. My destiny was clear - I was going to work with marine mammals in the future.

Over time I learned more about the ocean and its inhabitants and my curiosity lead me underwater through scuba diving. This is still one of my greater hobbies which gives me a fantastic possibility to – with my own eyes - encounter, discover and understand the sea and its marine life.

Iceland has been my dream country since I got my first Icelandic horse at the age of ten. Eight years later I felt ready to leave my safe nest in Sweden to go abroad and work during the summer. I thought of whales in Iceland as the perfect option and was lucky enough to find Gentle Giants. That year became my first to guide tourists through the life of Skjálfandi bay - and I keep coming back to this fantastic place!

When dolphins bow ride, when minkes come up close or when a humpback is jumping in front of our boat, this unreal feeling comes over me. After pinching my arm in the crows nest, I smile and realise that I’m now living both of my dreams – here at Gentle Giants.
