FIN AND FISH

As I write, my hands still smell like fish (a fragrance more than difficult to get rid of). This morning Frissi and I went out sea angling together with a group from Italy. Right after we left the harbour, a big whale appeared in front of us. At first I thought it was a very big minke, but after a closer look I realised it must be a small fin whale (the world´s second biggest animal). During my three years as a guide at Gentle Giants, this was the second time I see a fin whale. They are very rare!

The whale  was calm and came up frequently to breathe, very close to us. Frissi drove the boat in the same speed- and direction as the whale swam which gave us good views of the giant – time after time. We followed it out to Puffin Island, whereupon we stopped, left it to continue in peace while we tried our luck with the rods. Our passengers  let the lines down, started pulling up and down and got cod after cod stuck on the hooks. It was a successful trip – both with whales and fish – and we just came home very happy with it all.
