6 BLUES + 6 HUMPS

The festival continues … all around are whales! This morning I had the morning tour together with Lia and both of us were speechless after the tour.

We headed out to Skjalfandi Bay with captain Alli in charge. Today was Iceland’s Independence Day and so we hoped for a good day with the whales! But of course as always, nature is unpredictable. Suddenly we spotted a giant blue whale blow in the distance, which can in fact be up to 9 metres high! Then another blow, and another one and even more …… It was difficult to count how many, but we estimated around six blue whales just next to the boat. To top the tour even more we also had around 6-8 humpbacks around the boat, one even breached once for us!

A good friend of mine and his family from Ohio, United States, joined us on the tour this morning. They have been whale watching in several places around the world before, but said that their experience with us this morning was amazing. This is what they had to say after the tour:

“Wow!  The perfect word to summarize the experience of Gentle Giants Whale Watching is astonishing. The enthusiastic guides made it so much fun and the whales put on the ultimate show!  Thanks for an unforgettable time in Husavik.”
