FIRST HUMPBACK – AN IMMEDIATE RE-CAPTURE?

A few days ago we brought you news from the first tour this year that the first humpback of the season had been sighted. We were extremely happy with the first humpback sighting, and became even happier and surprised when we got it confirmed from the Husavik Whale Museum that this individual appears to be a re-capture from 2007! After comparing the humpback’s fluke with the Museum’s humpback whale catalogue, the Museum’s researchers came to the conclusion that this is the same individual that was sighted two days in a row in the beginning of June 2007, but has not been seen since (Husavik Whale Museum).

BLASTING SEASON START

Our first trip of the season was indeed very memorable – far better than what we had expected! As we always say to our passengers: “Keep the expectations low until something is spotted. This is nature and nature is unpredictable”.

MY SUMMER IN HUSAVIK

Nuri Pagès Prades from Spain joined our team early this season as a guide. This is what she had to say when leaving Husavik after her summer with GG: Today is the last day that I am working for Gentle Giants (at least this year!!) and it has been an amazing summer.

WHALE WATCHING UPDATES ...

September is usually a quite month in the whale watching. The number of tourists in Husavik decreases, the weather conditions change, and the bigger whales start migrating to warmer waters in lower latitudes.

MINKES + DOLPHINS + HUMPBACK

Minkes and dolphins have been our main sightings in most of our tours the first days of September. On some tours however, we have been very lucky and even spotted a humpback whale as well as northern bottlenose whales!! Throughout this month we offer one tour every morning from Husavik harbour at 9:45. The weather forecast for the next days is quite promising … We recommend early booking - either online or by calling us +354 4641500. A minke whale just next to our boat Faldur.
