Whales of Skjálfandi
Húsavík is considered as the whale watching capital of Europe – for a reason of course ... Icelandic waters make a home for around 24 species of whales, and the North is extraordinary. In our bay, Skjálfandi, we have the chance to encounter numerous types, shapes and sizes of whales; from the very smallest to the very biggest and loads in between. Our main aim is to raise general awareness and interest in those whales and their habitat.
Some of them stay here all year round, while the bigger ones come only for the summertime to feed. Tourists arrive at the same time which makes our season possible and Húsavík is such a nice place that some people - and even the humpbacks - return year after year!
